My Mother, My Promise
by:Charlene McCann Copyrighted 2001
***************
I promised you with all my heart,
The cancer battle having lost,
I promised you I'd do my part,
I promised you at any cost.

No nursing home .. I promised!
No hospitals or tests,
I kept you close beside me,
I honored your request.

I fought to do the best I could,
To soothe the pain of dying,
To make your passing easier,
Gave days and nights of trying.

To keep you from all agony,
To give you rest and peace,
I worked so hard and prayed to God
My strength would never cease.

And in those final hours,
My promises fulfilled,
I passed you on to God and Dad,
A Heavenly life to build.

I feel so guilty everyday,
For what I did not think of,
That might have made things easier,
Before you went above.

Please say that you forgive me,
For the little things I missed,
Please say that you still love me,
Please ... send down a little kiss.
